“People in Los Angeles like the nightlife, and they’re used to going out to places that a nice atmosphere,” he says, “I made the rink more like a club … It just makes it feel more warm and comfortable.” He notes that many of the attendees at the first Rainbow Skate 30 years ago were members of Alcoholics Anonymous or AIDS patients who couldn’t drink.
